Open Loop Forward Link Beamforming with Diversity Switching

چکیده

A novel method for using an antenna array to improve the performance of the forward (base station to mobile) link in cellular mobile telecommunications systems is described. Previous methods usually involve either beamforming (forming narrow radiation patterns in the direction of the mobile) or spatial diversity (exploiting uncorrelated channels realized by placing antennas far apart in a fading environment). However, neither strategy is effective in all channel conditions; for example, beamforming is ineffective in conditions with large angle spread, whereas spatial diversity is ineffective in conditions with low angle spread. In the method proposed here, one switches periodically between two beamformers. The beamformers are selected so as to improve signal power delivered to the mobile to the extent possible, while maintaining low correlation between the channels associated with the two beamformers as perceived by the mobile. Thus, switching between the beamformers provides diversity. It is shown that the proposed technique significantly outperforms both a traditional beamforming scheme and a 2-element diversity scheme for flat fading channels with a wide range of angle spreads. Further, the method can be applied to many existing protocols without modification, and requires no calibration of the antenna array.

Performance analysis of forward link beamforming techniques for DS/CDMA systems using base station antenna arrays

The performance of DS/CDMA systems using forward link beamforming and rake diversity combining is investigated analytically in frequency selective fading channels, whereas previous studies have resorted to Monte Carlo simulations in flat fading channels. The capacity of DS/CDMA systems is considerably improved by employing forward link beamforming.

Resource Partitioning with Beamforming for the Decode-Forward Relay Networks

A joint power and time slot partitioning scheme based on the channel status information (CSI) is proposed for networks of multiple relays using decode and forward (DF) protocol. A set of power constraints for the famous water pouring method is presented depending on the time slot partitioning and CSI. Optimizing the timing and the power distributions enhances the network throughput in addition ...

This paper is has addressed the Single Flexible Link Robot. The dynamical model is derived using Euler-Lagrange equation and then a proper controller is designed to suppress a  vibration based-on Input-Shaping (IS) method. But, IS control method is an open loop strategy. Due to the weakness of open loop control systems, a closed loop IS control system is proposed. The achieved closed loop c...

Transmit antenna diversity in Ricean fading MIMO channels with co-channel interference

Transmit antenna diversity using closed loop and open loop modes are compared in environments with line of sight propagation and spatially and temporally non-white noise. The connection between the feedback channel capacity in closed loop modes and the channel coherence time is investigated. It is shown that in LOS environments, the requirements on the feedback channel bit rate is lower. Furthe...
